Maude & Pearl Maughs "Newcomb"
From a conversation with Charles Pool who is a grandson of Maude (Maughs) Pool.
Both Maude and Pearl came from an orphanage in Union City, Kentucky. The orphanage burnt down so no records exist. However, their "original" name was Newcomb.
Henry Maughs wanted to adopt Pearl but not Maude. The orphanage wanted both girls to stay together and wouldn't allow them to be separated. As a result Henry took both.
If you have knowledge of the orphange at Union City or know of this family I would be interested in hearing from you.

THOMAS BRITT MAUPIN
Died, at the residence of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harris Maupin, Thomas Britt Maupin, on the first day of August, 1909, at 5:30 p.m., aged 21 months less a few days.
Thus passes away a flower taken to be placed in the garden of God forever.
"Suffer little children and forbid them not, to come unto me; for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven." "And He laid His hands on them." "They cannot return to us but we may go to them."
May God in His infinite love bless this home so sorely bereaved - may pour unto their bleeding hearts the oil of healing and give them that peace that passeth understanding.
The funeral was from the residence Monday morning. Services appropriate to the occasion were conducted by W. A. Meloan, minister of the Christian church, in the presence of a goodly gathering of relatives and friends. The body was laid away in Mother Earth, covered wtih flowers. The spirit had gone to God who gave it.
